Does anyone know if a browning auto 5 sweet sixteen safety can be easily converted to left-handed? The browning website says it is simple, however my gunsmith told me it is difficult and he has to order parts (total cost be around $70 for the conversion). Is this true???

With the correct parts in hand it's about a 20 minute job.

Jeff,

What parts does one need in hand?

Pete

Foursquare, Pull up "Brownells. com.". Go to the factory diagrams, there will be a part of the diagram that will show the parts and their number for the left hand safety. Just click on the number and it will give you the Brownell part number. From there you can buy/order the parts. Hope that helps. Good luck

Dawg be right.

The kit of parts for this conversion used to sell fairly regularly on Ebay. I'm not sure if they would pull it off under thier new (stupid) policy.

It's very easy to switch from RH safety to LH safety.

Get a left hand safety and a Browning screwdriver set from Brownell', plus an A5 takedown guide off gunbroker. The A5 takedown guide is a very good manual with lots of pictures.

The first one took me an hour. The second to last one took me 15 minutes.

The last one, well it's taken me three months, and 4 busted screw drivers. I'm preparing an alumium rod to apply heat directly to the screw head. That stock buttstock screw can be a real bear sometimes.
