I guess just about everybody knows that Marlin made a little 16 o/u on a 20ga frame--some like 'em, some don't---BUT does anyone remember(or have) one of the old (50's?) Savage Model 420's. It was a double trigger o/u (I think the 430's were ST)--kinda' clunky but probably would have been ok in a duck blind if they were decoyin'. Just wondering--------------

My first double was a Savage 420 in 20ga. Dynamics of a 2x4. Double triggers, plain barrel (no rib). You don't see as many of the 420's (or 430's, a slightly fancier model) as you do Marlin 90's, because they were only made from about 1938-42. The Marlin is the better choice of the two, especially for upland hunting.

Yep Larry the 2x4 image is about what I remember. As I said the thing was less objectionable in a duckblind but, as a Marlin 90 nut, I couldn't agree with you more about its (the Marlin's)utility as an upland gun. I can't recall if the 420 16's were on a dedicated frame or were on a 12 gauge chassis--you remember?

Ron--No, I don't remember for sure. The only thing I do remember is that those guns were fairly heavy, even in 20ga.
