The Sears, A.J. Aubrey, and Meriden Fire Arms Co. story is interesting but confusing. Check http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=17474742
I just received a repro 1908 Meriden Firearms Co. catalog from Cornell Pubs showing high grade guns including the 'A' grade with Whitworth, Krupp, or 6-blade Damascus barrels for $250 Shocked (It's not clear if any were actually produced however)
The 'E' grade is described as the "Quail Gun" particularly for "our Southern friends...with short, light barrels for quail...shore birds...brush shooting or anywhere that a quick handling gun...is required."
AND IT'S ONLY OFFERED IN A 16 with 24, 26, and 28" Krupp steel brls. Cool

I have owned a few Meriden guns in various Grades, One very high grade. 32 ejector gun with engraving that would rival a Lefever. Some of their guns were engraved by William Gough, the Ansley H Fox engraver... Had Meriden come up with a better bolting system,The Hunter Brothers might have been in trouble long before their 1917 bankruptcy .. The workmanship on the Meriden guns is extremely good..MDC

Drew, most of us have known this all along.
And as it's told in "New England Grouse Shooting" by William Harnden Foster. The ultimate Grouse gun is also the 16 gauge. Parker of course. Wink
