Thoughts are with ya. I recently lost 2 Jack Russels (6 mos apart) and it isn't easy. Nothing anyone can say can ease the pain.

Remember all the good times and hunts you had together.

Sorry to hear that, Mark. Losing dogs is tough enough; even tougher during the hunting season.

Well, everyone is sure looking forward to coming out there next week! I'll send you a PM through here on Monday to tie up a couple loose ends.

I lost 2 of my best friends this spring 6 weeks apart. The only fault that good dogs have is that they don't live long enough. You have my sympathies!

I too suffer for you because of your terrible loss.

Rest easy knowing that all good dogs go to their doggy heaven.

Sorry about the loss of your good buddy - - he looked like a real winner. Although he only lived about 15 yrs on this earth, he will live a lot longer in your mind.

I find there is joy and sadness when I get a new pup, knowing that the pup has such a limited life span. Very Happy Sad

This was expected as he was having bloating episodes, could'nt hear or see and had started to literally waste away.No cancer or pain except from the bloating which was becoming more frequent and severe. He suffered an auto immune disorder back in the mid 90's and a gastric torsion 1 1/2 years later.
Both surgeries nearly killed him and me.But a great vet helped us both through them.He spent the last 5 years in So. Calif.living out his golden years and I'm very grateful he survived the trip back to Iowa were he was in his element and prime. To his credit is a 16" tall,8" diameter glass vase with around 600 tail feathers that he retrieved for myself and those I hunted with. All within 10 miles of the house. He was a thrill to behold in those days bringing birds from the far side of the hunting line back to me regardless of who shot, beating the dogs that were already there and this in 6' tall switch grass, and the 3/4 mile winged birds that there was just no way any dog would find them,"just give him a few more minutes" I'de say"he'll be back" and he always would.
He put 100K miles of wear in the back of the pick up and the tops of the fender wells were smoother than even the best of body shop guys could do.
He slept in that pick up every day for 3 months waiting for me to come back from a trip to Alaska knowing I would never abandon him or our pick up.
He saw the Statue of Liberty from the shotgun seat of a Freightliner more than once and looked with disdain at the entrance to Disney land as well.
He was the loyal friend when my wife left me and the I'm sure he was'nt happy about moving to Ca. to save a marriage but he was with me and that's what mattered. The marriage is strong and sound today. We're back in the country that I love and we prepared for this event a few months ago.
His name is Casey

Here he is one last time guys.Thank you for the kind words;Mark

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special
friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water
and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.
Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we
remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy
and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special
to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops
and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body
quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green
grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy
kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and
you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from
your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

This poem says it all for all us that own or have ever owned a dog. Hunting or not.
