Hello,
I am new to upland bird hunting and was wondering if anyone knows a good all around field guide to upland birds? I am looking for something that has habitat, identification and even cleaning, I have never hunted birds before. The WMA that I normaly hunt at has lots of cultivated dove fields that I think would have other game birds in it as well and thougth I would try it out when deer season is over in the begging of January.
thanks for any info.

Suggest you contact your local DNR as they will have information about the available species in your area.-Dick |

Game and Inland Fisheries have a good number of resources. It can be downloaded from their site. Most of the WMA's in Virginia have limited upland shooting.
If you get out to the Highlands WMA or North Mountain WMA, there is good grouse shooting and truckloads of turkeys. The George Washington NF is a good place to look.
Just getting out of NOVA would be a good enough reason to go to the WMA. |
