HOLY COW! Was at the Cabela's in Hammond, Ind., today and they were asking $10.99 for 16 ga. Win GLs. No, not the high brass 1 1/8s -- the regular, everyday 1 oz. Win GLs.
They even had little signs on the shelves that said increases in metal costs had forced them to raise their ammunition prices and they were sorry for "any inconvenience." I kid you not.
I hightailed it back to the local Meijer store and wiped 'em out on the 16 Win GLs in No. 8 at $5.99 per box. Got 14 boxes. |

In Marquette, MI, 16 ga. shells are especially hard to come by. Since the end of November, I have watched the same 2 boxes of Federal #6's sit on the clearance shelf and go from $7.99 to $11.99 (as of last week). Boy, I hope some lucky bargain hunter grabs 'em before they hit $15. So much for "falling prices at Wal-mart". |

I picked up some 16 Winchester Super X #8's today at WalMart yesterday for $5.56 ea. I figured that was about as good as I was going to do around here. Not the best there is but not too bad either. I asked if that was the normal price and they confirmed it was. The said they have been that price for a while. Interestingly, not all WalMarts aroudn here carry 16's and the store I found them at had only 9 boxes and I got all of them. They did not know how long it would take them to restock. Also note they kept them behind the counter and not on the shelf with the other stuff so be sure you ask. |
