Hey Guys,

Just became one of you. I'm a soon to be 39 year old gun nut here in S.C. and I'm a gun dealer at a local gun shop/range here. I love to hunt anything that moves and the 16 bore is my favorite shotgun gauge. I currently have a Browning Citori Lightning (one from the first run of 16s in the '80s), a Sweet Sixteen A-5 (Jap) and my grandfather's old Winchester 24 double. I'll absolutely have to have one of the new BPS Uplands in 24" at some point but in the meantime I just ordered one of the Remington 870 Express Youth models with 23" barrel. I had a hankering to put together an inconspicuous 16ga turkey gun / easy to tote knock around gun and found the Youth 870 on closeout. I'll put a full sized stock on it, get a Trulock turkey choke and be good to go! Probably be one of the few genuine 16 ga "turkey guns" in the woods around here!
The 16's still have a pretty decent following around here and we sell quite a bit of ammo for them, birdshot, rabbit/squirrel loads, slugs/buckshot, you name it. I was surprised at how many calls we had for 16 ga steel shot this past waterfowl season and we always seemed to be out. We don't get a whole lot of calls for new guns but did sell every new Remington 1100 and 870 in 16 that came in during their short reintroduction and we try to keep at least one CZ double on the rack. There are still a good many discriminating nimrods out there that appreciate the 16 and I'm proud to be one of them!

Welcome aboard SC! Sounds like you are well indoctrinated in art of 16s. Very Happy Turkey season is just around the corner so you better get cracking on that turkey gun.

Welcome SCGunNut

I have a pair of those 870 16's. Wingmaster and Exp still in the box. Got the both of them for $600.00 so I had to buy them. I have several Sweet's and a Model-12 16 that I hunt with so the 870's might never get used.

Sporting Ammo loads a 15/16 oz steel load at 1450 fps. It's the best off the shelf steel shells for the 16 that I know of at the moment.
