This is the only part of my Model 12 16 ga. that I don't like the looks of. The wood and bluing are both in nice shape, but I sure wish I could get this cleaner. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Remove the barrel assembly and then the trigger assembly (1 screw at the rear of the trigger guard) the bolt can then be removed. Rub down with 0000 steel wool lubricated with plenty of light oil or Break Free (CLP). If that doesnt remove the rust switch to 800 grit crocus cloth lubricateed with CLP. |

Thanks. If I don't have break free, would regular Hoppes gun oil suffice? Or do you mean more of a household oil like 3-in-1 (or is there any difference?)?
Thanks. |

You might think about passing the bolt off to your local gunsmith while you have it out, and having him jewel it. He will polish it, and the jeweling will help to keep a thin film of oil on the bolt, to avoid this look in the future. Plus, it looks really neat, too.
Best,

Any good light oil will work. When you have the rust off be sure to clean the entire bolt assembly very good and re lubricate everything before you re assemble the gun to include the trigger mechanism and the inside of the receiver. |
