Hi guys.

Hubertus was a "trade name" for the firm of Immanuel Meffert. Several Prussian gunmakers used trade names. Meffert used their own actions, barreled actions, as well as actions from Merkel. A similarity to a Merkel might not be coincidence at all.

Any chance you can post some photos and specs on your gun?
The guns in the pictures above seems to be of Sauer pre-WWII origine. Sauer sold actions to other makers, who equipped them with barrels and wood.

Merkel pre-WWII guns were mainly O/U - in fact I've never seen a Merkel pre-WWII sbs. (Which of course doesn't mean that they could not have been made!)

What makes you think so?
Note that gun in first pic has "edged" pistolgrip?
Not all, but most prewar sbs had roundshape grip.

I have very similar model 8 Meffert from 1954, still with roundshape grip.
It has both HUBERTUS and Imman. Meffert texts.

Iīd like to say Packerkenīs gun is Meffert model 1AE (see that catalog part 1).

For a beautiful SXS pre-war Merkel, go to Kirby Hoyts website,- www.vintagedoubles.com

I have a top-shelf pre-war Otto Geiger SXS 12 ga. built on a Merkel action.
