I saw that one also.

Belknap was a very large Hardware chain and manufacturer here in Louisville that folded about thirty years ago I actually know several of the family members that are still around and live right next to their farm.

As a result you can forget about the gun in question as I will be bidding on their behalf up to $5000.00 for it.

nah just a little humor.

This gun is one of the infamous "hardware Guns that most every chain imported as a "house" brand. In Belknaps case I know they used "Pride Of Spain" quite a bit for their guns. Decent plain Jane guns. There were many others. Perhaps others might know more.
Best of luck,
Brad

From the 1962 Gun Digest "Brand Names on Firearms" Belknap sold guns labeled 'Daniel Boone', 'Essex', 'Nitro Hunter', 'Oxford Arms', and 'Volunteer' and were likely H&D Folsom products.

Drew,

Your like having our own little think tank.

Now...get back to work on that cure for the common cold and the walking on water trick.

Thanks Doc!

Bought my first hunting coat from Belknap, ran across an old one recently I didn't know I had. Must have shrunk, doesn't quite fit anymore. Major supplier to hardware stores throughout the US. I recently bought 2 guns from an elderly friend, Essex single barrell breakdown 12ga. and Remington model 11 12ga which looks 95%, He asked $350. for both.

I remember seeing that 'Belknap' name on products in NAPA auto stores.

A Belknap is being discussed over on DoubleGunBBS, and the consensus seems to be that it's a Baker

Rev:

What was the name of the big gun distributor/retailer in Philadelphia around 1900? Darn memory!! Anyway I once saw a Baker (no Baker markings) with that name at a gunshow.

As MD said, this is a Baker marked Tryon Special

and a Baker marked Rev-O-Noc, the trade name of Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett Co. of Chicago

Thank you MD, that was it - Tryon, and Drew's picture captures the look (though the one I saw was not nearly so pristine). Again, thank you for supplying the name, not remembering has been bugging me since last night!!!
