I doubt if you have the skeeters like we have in the South during turkey season. If you do, carry a Thermacell so you don't have to lather her up with insect repellent. I would also consider spraying the outside of her clothing and boots (a few days before) with a permanone based product to keep the ticks away.

Well, we just got back this afternoon. Though we didn't even hear a gobbler, it was a successful hunt nonetheless. We covered a lot of beautiful country, saw a freshly hatched clutch of grouse eggs (no birds in sight), saw a male ruffed doing his dance, saw two bald eagles, found a robin's nest with eggs still in it at a height where she could see, ate like we were in camp, and watched a lot of fun movies together.

Thank you again for the advice.

I am glad it went well. It sounds like you took the time to make it enjoyable for her and it will pay off in the future because she will want to do it again.

Great job!

Thanks, Chorizo. I asked her on the way home this afternoon what her favorite part of the trip was. Her reply was "All of it." Makes a dad's heart glad. She was certainly doted on, not just by me, but the neighbors at their camps, too.

It's nice to think to the future, springing her from school for a day or two to enjoy the MI high country.

Glad it went so well for you and your daughter. Sounds like a great time was had by all.

GREAT picture! Do her eyes look that much like yours in real life, or is that a trick of the camera?

No, we have the same color eyes. This was a self-portrait taken with a disposable Kodak held out at arms length, and hoping I had it pointed the right way. It did turn out well.
