Hello all,

This is my first post here on 16ga. Many of you might know me from the other boards on the "usual circuit", but for thouse of you who don't, please let me introduce myself. My name is Frank Lopez. I am 57 years old (58 in August), am married with two children, both of whom are also married. I currently have two grandchildren, with another due in October (my favorite month). I work as a CAD system administrator for the local utility, and I will be retiring sometime in the next two years.

I hunt birds with SxS guns of all gauges (except the .410 which I regard as too light for the type of birds I hunt), but the 16 is without a doubt, my favorite. My current 16s are a Parker Trojan, a Marixa (Spanish) sidelock, and an old JC Higgins. For targets I prefer my barrels stacked, and am presently shooting a Browning Citori XS Skeet. I shoot predominantly skeet, with the occasional round of trap and a rare round of sporting clays.

I have done some testing on patterns and shot strings, and I've discovered nothing new! Laughing I have come to the conclusion that the 16 and the 28 come as close as possible to the perfect combination of load and barrel diameter so as to give the most efficient results, but I cannot say why, they just are. As Brister once said, they hit harder than they ought to.

I reload almost all of my own ammunition in all gauges. However, I'm a novice regarding the 16. I just picked up a gently used MEC 600jr in 16, and plan to begin reloading that gauge as soon as I am done analyzing the components and settle on a recipe.

My other hobbies include fishing, both saltwater and flyfishing for trout, big game and turkey hunting, taxidermy (mostly birds, but the occasional deer head), trapping and baseball. I do not currently have a dog, due to lifestyle constraints, but once I retire, I'll be looking for a setter.

I hope I can add as much here as I expect to learn, and by having lurked for a while, I've already learned quite a bit.

Frank
