Just took out my Collath and had a ball with the doves. Great field gun. Yes, I know loading it is challenging but to me worth the effort....

I have a high grade J.P. Sauer but have never hunted it. Keep talking about having it restored by Turnbull, but haven't gotten to it yet. As far as I know, it has not been fired since pre WW-II. |

Hello,
I have a Krieghoff 16x16x8x57R. I will be using it for hunting this year. I really like its lightness.
Enjoy the day, Mike |

Both Krieghoff and JP Sauer are premier drillings. To each their own, but just love taking these to the field.
I hunt boar with a Simson prewar 8x57 and 16 guage slugs. It has an original hensoldt scope and is just a pleasure to have in the field. I am having a noted gunsmith restore this "mildly" as I lost a spring in the last hunt for the left shotgun and had some light pitting on the barrel from sitting in an attic since 1946.
I also like my American SxSs as well. I am a Lefever, Parker and Ithaca (Crass, NID) fan both 12 and 16.

i have been hunting exclusively with drillings and sxs cape guns for over 30 years.
.22 hornets,8x57R,9.3x72R,.22 HP.300 sherwood and others. make scope mounts (claws) and mount different type scopes. Just completed a bushnell halo on a 8x57RX16ga.
Average american sportsman has no idea what a drilling can do. Got questions? |

Drilling, derived from German "three". 1,2,3,4 ein, zwei, drei, vier.
A three barrel gun, most often but not limited to : 16 ga side by side shotgun barrels and one rifle barrel below and under.
But there are many configurations, gauges and calibers.
A vierling is a four barrel.
I know...your first reaction...to heavy. Not so. Krupp steel.
Numerous advantages. Try a Bobjonesguns.com for some pics. |

Thanks, it is amazing what one can learn reading these posts. So, is "drilling" pronounced as it is spelled or pronounced as "dryling" as in "dreiling"? |

I am taking my 16x16 over 9.3x72R W.Richard Drilling out to do Phesants this fall...
I've got to find some good 2.5" low pressure factory loads first... haven't got the reloading bit worked out yet. |

RST great. You should be able to get this at the Vintagers (if you go) and escape the shipping and maybe even gain from a show special if they do that.
www.polywad.com is another I just bought a case of 6 shot and a case of 8s.
Price was better then Gamebore which I gave up on. They have a bad chain of distribution that I have not been able to get decent pricing and or shipping on. Love their ammo though. |

I hunt with a Gustav Rätzel 16/16/8x57IR drilling from the time of WWI. Still in good shape and has balance like a fine shotgun.

Just took 2 other favorites to the field for dove. Both are pre-war (late 20s) Miller & Val Greiss in 16x16x 9.3. One is Improved Mod/Mod and the other is Mod/Full and are a great pleasure to carry in the field. Both are in original found condition the sidelock is a little rough but again very enjoyable.
