Hi All,
My Spanish 16 ga SxS has a proof certificate with the following statement:
"Esta escopeta ha sido probada con CUATRO disparos iguales por cada canon, desarrollando una presion de 1320 bar a 25 mm. del plano de culata."
Would anyone be able to translate this? Does "1320 bar" really mean 19,400 psi?
Thanks,

Yes, that is PROOF, that doesn't mean that you should shoot loads that hot.
SAAMI proof loads run that hot also, but the SAAMI Maximum Average Working Pressure for the 16 gauge is 11,500. I am sure it is the same for your firearm. The manufacturers fire proof rounds through new firearms, as a test to ensure that the firearm was made properly and with the correct material. Then they are normally function fired with normal target or field loads to make sure the action works correctly.
On this side of the Atlantic most guns are proofed at 150%, I would guess that all modern European shotguns are proofed in a similar manner, since we all use the same ammuntion. |

"This shotgun was proved with FOUR equal discharges in each barrel, developing a pressure of 1320 bar at 25mm (about 1 inch) from the breech."
European shotguns are proved to a different standard than the SAAMI specs. This does not mean that they are inferior, just a different method of proof. If you stay within the SAAMI standards, your gun will do just fine.

Brewster,
This gun wouldn't happen to be a Zabala Hermanos (AKA Tristar) would it?
