Getting ready to head to the SHOT Show in Las Vegas. I already have an agenda but know that I have left something out. Here are the plans I already have, if any 16 gauge shooters have something else that they would like me to do as a media rep, let me know.
1. Check out the new CZ-16's.
2. Talk to Browning about making the Citori 16's a regular production item instead of just special production runs.
3. Browning/Beretta/CZ/Benelli/Charles Daly - 16 gauge semi-autos built on 16 gauge frames.
4. Browning/Beretta 28 gauge semi-autos (I know, they're not 16's but they are special too!)
5. Beretta for a 16 gauge O/U.
6. DownRange and Duster wads about bring out a clone of the WAA-16.
7. Fiocchi ammo about expanding their line of 'Golden Pheasants' in 16 to include 6's and 7 1/2's and also about a one ounce load. I will also be talking to them about expanding their 'game and target' line of 16 ammo to include a 7/8th ounce in 7 1/2's and 8's.
8. Wolf ammo is considering a 16 gauge line. I am going to be meeting with them and will be stressing that they do 7/8th and one ounce loads instead of 1 1/8th ounce stuff.
9. Find out if the rumors about Remington and Winchester are true.
Any others that you want me to talk to and report back?
I want to thank the members of this society. The numbers shown by the R-16 wad purchase last year will give some heavy numbers for me to give to the factory reps and these numbers are large enough to get their attention.
Either post or PM me.
Thanks

Hi Terry:
Have fun this year - I have an invite for NEXT year (couldn't make it work this year).
re - your list (with cross-reference)...
1. Check out the new CZ-16's.
YUP - please post about availability
2. Talk to Browning about making the Citori 16's a regular production item instead of just special production runs.
YUP - ask when the gr6 will be available and where
4. Browning/Beretta 28 gauge semi-autos (I know, they're not 16's but they are special too!)
YUP - been on my wish list for a couple of years
5. Beretta for a 16 gauge O/U.
YUP
6. DownRange and Duster wads about bring out a clone of the WAA-16.
YUP - how about claybuster??
8. Wolf ammo is considering a 16 gauge line. I am going to be meeting with them and will be stressing that they do 7/8th and one ounce loads instead of 1 1/8th ounce stuff.
YUP
9. Find out if the rumors about Remington and Winchester are true.
Too scared to ask...
thanks.... |

This a great list. I'm booked into a day at the SHOT show. Let's add to the list and I can reinforce his message.

Wow, sounds like a great list Terry. I just have a couple of minor additions to your list.
A) Ask Remington about the 16ga 1100/870 and why not do it on an LT20 frame instead of the 12ga frame? The LT20 is a fine frame and has won lots of acclaim from upland hunters and others wanting a lighter version of those 2 guns.
B) While I am thinking about Remington, why not a 16 gauge version of their really nice Sporting Model 1100's? They have all of the other gauges, 12/20/28 and .410. I just had a chance to shoot the .410 version of this a few weeks ago and I have to say it was one of the smoothest swinging and fun .410's I have ever shot.
C) While you are asking Beretta about a 16ga o/u, why not ask them about possible plans to bring back the Silverhawk in 16ga, even if it is one the 20ga frame. I would point to some discussion not to long back about the selling prices of 16ga Silverhawks on the used market. Zow, talk about commanding a premium.
Anyway, thanks for representing this forum and upland shooters there. I am looking forward to hearing your report. I am very curious to find out some of the replies to your questions (even the 28 autos by Benelli/Beretta, I would love a Montefeltro in 28... although I love my Franchi Al-48, still.).
Finally, I hope that there is still some good news in the world of American gun manufacturing this year, at least enough for the USRA closure to be it for a while after seeing Ithaca and then them go down this year. I certainly hope Remington is not next.
Good luck and thanks again,
Brad |

6. DownRange and Duster wads about bring out a clone of the WAA-16.
Would prefer you ask them to make a wad designed for a hull that's still available.
If you go to www.grafs.com you'll find they are listing new SKUs for Fiocchi 16 Golden Pheasant in 4s, 6s, and 7.5. They all show as out of stock, but why would they add them if weren't coming soon?
It's a great list, good luck. My only addition would be what I'd call a "classic turkey load". 1 oz of plated 5s at about 1200 f/s.
Thanks
Pete |

Excellent ideas! I too have wished for a Beretta O/U in 16.
One more, might not be that popular with some on the board, but what about a Ruger Red Label on a 16 gauge frame? |

a Red Label or Gold Label 16 would be wonderful. My 12 ga Red Label has been fired at least 15,000 times and never has missed a beat.
I doubt Ruger has any interest in this project but I sure do!

Good list, guys!
I second the suggestion on the Galazan and Red Label Ruger 16 ga inquiry. For those of us who do not reload, what about asking someone to make some #8 and #9 loads for skeet and clays shooting that are a little softer than any of the standard field loads?
Thanks and enjoy the show!

Please ask Marlin how they're doing with the Italian made pseudo-Elsie and it they might make a 16 on the 20g. frame? Anyone with experience with a 12 or 20? Weight? Impressions? |

I was at a gun shop in Shrewsbury, MA Saturday to look at a Model 37, 16 ga.. It was overpriced. It had a broken and repaired trigger guard which will need to be reinforced of it will fail again. It was in about 80%, plain barreled with a polychoke attached. The price was about $300 and not too negotiable. The gun was not worth over $200.
However, they showed me a 12 and 20 ga. of the Marlin Elsies @ $1780 each. They were heavy. I don't think the overall fit, finish, or quality warrents their price. They look to be box locks with case hardened, false side plates. The wood was a yawn with a dull olive brown washed over look.
If the sideplates are merely for cosmetics and not functional, they should be dispensed with and the wood finished better in stead. Everyone knows these are not real LC Smiths and never will be. So why even try to resemble the originals which they don't closely anyway. Besides, doesn't the Marlin name carry any clout? Its like trying to market a Ford with a Cadillac grille, because the company is embarressed it's Ford. Either that or Marlin's marketing team thinks the average American gun buyer is a a dumb ass. The guns are made in Italy. However, they closely resemble the Russian guns being marketed by Remington. I could not tell who the Italian maker is. Sorry to say, it appears Marlin has some "dain bramaged" marketing execs without a clue about guns loose on the premises. When will these guys learn. 16GG. |

I would second a vote for a 16 gage Red Label or Gold Label but don't hold your breath. Several years ago I actually wrote Ruger suggesting a 16 gage RL IF it could be built on the current 20 gage frame and come in lighter than the 28 inch 20 gage. To my surprise I actually received a written reply from Ruger that said, in effect, we don't believe anyone would buy such a gun. I don't know if Ruger perceives enuff interest to build such a gun. I would think a 16 would sell at least as well, if not better, than the 28 gage RL. |
