Just what is Vintage Skeet?
Perhaps you noticed the word vintage in our title caption Vintage Skeet and were left with a question? Well, here is the answer!
We would like to invite you to join us in an exciting version of our favorite clay game. You may recall that skeet was invented in the United States in the early 1920s as a method to practice upland game shooting. Targets were thrown with a delayed release and shot from a low gun as if one was shooting over their favorite pointer. In the last 85 years, skeet has moved away from its hunting heritage and evolved into a precision shooting discipline with instant pulls and a mounted gun the norm.
I challenge you to give our Vintage Skeet a try. You will have more shooting fun and sharpen you shooting skills by returning to the original version of the game. Vintage Skeet competitors use period style equipment [side by side or pump guns] as well as the original Skeet rules, incorporating both a delayed target release and an off-the-shoulder low gun mount. This is the game our Grandfathers would have shot!
Remember too, that this was also the era of paper shells and less than perfect shotshell performance. Perfect rounds of 25 were rare and usually resulted in a celebration! In fact, in five previous World Vintage Shoots, we have never had a perfect 100x100!
I do hope that you will accept the challenge and give Vintage Skeet a try while at the Northbrook Sports Center May 18th through May 21st.
