I have an ancient English double-barrel shotgun, sixteen gauge of course, that fires three inch shells. Anybody know where to find those? I've had zero luck on my own. |

16 gauge 3" shells may be obtained from Rocky Mountain Cartridge in Cody WY. 3" loads may be a problem. Is the shotgun's barrel Damascus? If so, www.doublegunshop.com maybe able to help. |

Byron -
Only alternative I can think of, other than the RMC brass hulls previously mentioned, would be to use new, unskived, 2 3/4" hulls and roll-crimp. Perhaps one of the roll-crimp garu's on the forum will comment on this possiblity. As I don't roll-crimp I really don't know what I'm talking about, but offer the idea as a possibility. BTW, if you do go this route, I would have any load pressure tested before firing in any gun I valued (little less your face, of course). In addition, I believe I would have a good gunsmith inspect the "ancient" shotgun and advise whether or not it should even be fired with a heavy load.
Probably be a little shorter than 3", but not much.
My only question is, "Why bother?"
It seems to me that you can load any reasonable charge/shot combo you need in a 2 3/4" hull, without the hassle.
Whatever course you follow, congratulation on a fine gun. Good luck and enjoy. |
