Gentlemen:

Off loaded 2 tons of 7.5s, 8s, and 9s - split between magnum and chilled - shot today (170 bags and I handled every one Rolling Eyes ) from the Graf's truck at the club.

After about the 20th bag I got to wondering what size shot you all shoot in your 16 ga guns at:

skeet?

trap?

sporting clays?

Right now I reload 16s using 8s and shoot these 1 oz reloads at all three of these games. Although if I shoot the A5 at sporting clays, it likes the Remington field loads - 1 oz of 8s or 7.5s Wink

What's your pleasure Question Question Question Question

I reload 7/8 oz 8 1/2's for skeet (for the 12 as well as the 16), and that's what I use most of the time for sporting clays as well, although I'll usually have a box of factory 1 oz 8's or 7 1/2's for longer targets.

I shoot 9's for skeet in my Citori and Merkel 16's; #7 1/2 or #8 in my full choke Model 12 16 ga. for trap and #8 or #9's, depending on the course, for sporting clays ( I don't do much of that; you don't get enough shooting at Sporting Clays for the $$ in my opinion---it costs $30/100 around here)

I don't reload so I've been using the Rem Game loads in 7.5's for trap and Sporting.

To be honest: I don't think we CAN convince a major maufacturer to do it; the market is just too specialized; there just aren't that many of us, and most of us "prefer" to reload anyway.....

9's for skeet, switch to 8½'s in the winter.
8's for sporting, switch to 7½'s in the winter.
Don't shoot much trap, but I'd choose the same sizes as for sporting.

out of any of the 16's I own, there's nothing better for small fast birds like quail and doves than a good fast load of 9's. As I have stated here in the past the old REM Express in 9's was the best bird load, I ever shot. I plan to somewhat duplicate it when I start reloading but prob will back off to 1oz of shot instead of 1 and 1/8. For all clay birds I don't have any problem with the performance of the "econo loads" by Rem and Win 2.5 d powder and 1 oz shot in 8's. The seem to be very uniform and effective. When I start reloading, I'm sure I'll change my mind. However, 1 oz shot is the "balanced" load for 16 and always seems to perform well in any shot size. In any case, most of the time, "it ain't the gun (or shell), it's the shooter". mod11rem

3/4 oz of #9 chilled for skeet. 7/8 oz. of hard #8 for trap. a mixture of both loads for SC depending on range and presentation. 16GG
