I just had a chance to shoot 100 Sporting in some terrible cold weather with
my new DeHaan 16 gauge SxS. It is 6.5 lbs. with 28 inch barrels. It sportes fixed chokes-IC and M. The receiver is a flat black finsih and the barrels are a black chrome. Stock is straight grained walnut. Yep, double triggers with a straight grip. IMHO - A lot of gun for the money. It will replace my 90 day old 870 Express.
Say what you will, but for a SxS under $700.00, this gun is hard to beat! |

Highcountry-
Thanks for the note. I was already bitten by the sxs bug a few years back, now the 16 gauge itch caught up with me as well. Not much to choose from in 16 gauges for entry level guns. The price tag on the DeHaan makes it an impulse purchase with a second mortgage. The one ounce
loads perform quite well with no perceived recoil. [Stock is thicker and straighter than some of the Merkels I have seen.] I am having fun with it. |

Hal,
Glad to hear you are happy with your DeHaan. I considered one a while back, but I got a little put off when I e-mailed them for some particular info and they never responded. Not a real knock on DeHaan; I know they're busy, and I have read good things about them here and other places. But it did cause me to step back and rethink, and in the meantime I found my Sterlingworth, which is what I really wanted anyway. The DeHaan price, and what you get for it, really turned my head, though! Shoot it well, and in good health!
