My favorite duck gun is the mod 37 16ga with #5 lead over decoys.....
Now that we can no longer use lead, that was long over due, I now use a Jap A-5 12ga 3"...
I have been waiting for 16ga waterfowl load in hevi-shot.... So far all I have been able to find is "field loads"..... Has anyone have a line on Waterfowl loads??
One more ? Razz
Is the "New Remington" 16ga 870 on a 12ga frame? Or is it a honest 16banger?

Thanks...

Welcome, John.

The 870 is on a 12 ga frame, can't help you with the other questions.

Try an older 870 (mine is a '55 model), they feel and handle a lot better, although they also appear to be on a 12 ga frame.

John,

welcome!!

Try the Kent Tungsten Matrix, best 16 gauge non-tox shell in the world. Bismuth also makes a 16 gauge load.

Have you ever tried Kent tungsten matrix #5 in your 16? I've used it for about 4 seasons now and it reminds me of shooting lead. Also use it for wild pheasants where non-toxic is required--has worked well for me. I use the 1 1/16-oz #5, but it also comes in a 1 1/4-oz version, but that would be way too much recoil in my light gun. The one ounce version in number 6 is perfect for teal and woodies. I think I read recently that there will be some Hevi-shot 16 gauge shells by fall.

Try the Bismuth 16 ga. 1 1/8 oz load of #4's: great duck load at any range you should be shooting at ducks with a 16.....

To be honest my 16ga has been dormant since the lead ban. Every now and then I will shoot off an email to the ammo manufacturers asking about waterfowl loads for the 16ga. Waterfowl hunting is 99% of my hunting....

Next Year I will try Kent tungsten matrix #5, that is for sure....

Man what a bore. I almost forgot. Embarassed ....
