A shotshell box reads, so many drams of gunpowder?

Does anybody know the equivalent of grains in a dram?

I did check a couple of websites and they say is 1/16th of an oz, but that seems a bit to much.

It is dram equivalent in black powder.

The smokeless charge produces a muzzle velocity equal to the muzzle velocity that would be produced by a charge of black powder of the stated drams.

Search "dram equivalent".

Go to Hodgdon's website and look up loading data for black powder.

Somewhere in their data, there used to be exact loads of black powder in grains to achieve a certain velocity, in a certain gauge. The data was printed just like smokeless powder data, giving all the components. I am not a big black powder reloader but Hodgdon has the info.

I would also contact any company that manufactures black powder as they should have the information also.

OK HERE GOES

This is NOT about smokeless powder.

Do NOT load smokeless by the dram only weight

If you load smokeless by the dram you will blow up your gun.

OK, just had to say it HARD

Now, yes go to Hogdon and get the proper weight to load for what you want
