Need some advice.....I found a Model 12 16 gauge Full choke for $395, good condition. It's pre 1964, is it worth the $395? is that a good buy?

Yes a good buy if in decent shape, not a steal but a good buy IMO.

Is it a 2 3/4 Chambered gun ?

2 3/4" will be stamped as such.

Rule of thumb: SN over 500k (actually a bit less, but depends on who you read) = 2 3/4".

And don't be scared of 2 9/16 guns, many sources for short shells, and reloaders are sold every day.

Hmm I have a Mec 600 jr, just need to get a set of 16 gauge dies for it. I'm sure it could be adjusted to do 2 9/16?

Save on shipping and order anything else you may need at the same time Wink MEC is a great company but a little high when the S+h is added in Rolling Eyes

First I'll make a disclaimer here, because this may not be correct for some foreign ammunition or some obscure brands (so use your own jusgement), but I understand that major American brands of 16-ga. ammunition use a shorter case than 2-3/4", so it can be fired in 2-9/16" guns safely. Suggest you fire a round of ammunition in question, in a 2-3/4" chambered gun and then measure the fired case.

Four Squared

Your post made me wonder. So I measured some Winchester, Remington and Federal hulls. They measured 2.710 and 2.725 a little short. but not 2.5625 (2 9/16")

Remington did make a few game loads that were 67mm, I have a few of those hulls around here somewhere.

I have a Model 12 - 16 Gauge gun with a 2 9/16" chamber made in 1916. None of the true 2 3/4" hulls will eject regularly. the 67mm Remingtons did eject fine.

Just a little info.
