Anybody have one using readily obtainable components? A buddy of mine picked up a couple flats of these (old stock) and was hoping the accumulated wisdom out there had a recipe.

They're the ones that look to be heat sealed at the center of the crimp. I'll post a picture later if I have a chance.

Thanks in advance.

YEEEE HAWWW

You have struck GOLD
I believe these to be COMPRESSION FORMED HULLS. (Anyone else concur?)

Loads are everywhere, especially the Lyman Shotshell Handbooks.

What shot charges and velocities do you want?

Enjoy

Mike

Yes they are the compression formed hull. The markv superX was compression formed and the markV X-pert had a paper basewad. There are a lot of loads for the compression formed hull. The only problem is that the new WAA16 wads do not fit well in the old hulls. Claybuster made the new wads to fit in the straight walled hulls. I tried one and it was overly tight when going in. It's best to use the recipes that use the Rem SP16 wad.

They are great hulls. I shot up a full case of them (500) several years ago just to get the hulls, as the loads were #4 shot and patterned pitifully in my guns.

I'm also fortunate to have about 10k older Win AA16 wads that work great in these hulls. Would be nice if they were still made.

You might look at the discussion here about the BP 20L wad that works well with the Rem black 16ga hulls which are also pretty tight. In my experience they are good for at least one load on once fired cases and thereafter (as hull streches or burns out) you start to see some blowby and best to switch to 16ga wad. I have also used Fed 20ga wads, but you need to snip back petals about 1/8".
