I have a nice William Powell chambered for 2 1/2 inch shells and I want a nice load of about 1150 - 1200 FPS with a folded crimp. I've been shooting RST shells and love them but I would like to shoot more and they are a little expensive. Any help would be appreicated. I have plenty of RST hulls which I believe are Fiochi. Esetter,
This is my go to load for my 16 gauge Damascus guns.
2-1/2" RST-Cheddite hull
Win. 209 primer
19.5 grains SR-7625 powder
SG-16 wad
7/8 oz lead shot, with 6 fold crimp.
1200 FPS @ 7500 PSI
It's kinda tough to fit 1 oz. of shot in the 2-1/2" Cheddite hull.
I use the same components, only the hull is 2-9/16" for 1 oz.
20.5 grains of SR-7625
1150 FPS @ 7400 PSI
You might squeeze 1 oz. into the 2-1/2" hull, by compressing the wad more. Just make sure you have a good crimp, or it may open up on you after the shell sets awhile. |

That looks like a great load Dave. Do you have a favorite 2.5" 1 oz. load that achieves the same velocity and pressure? |

I can name a couple off top of my head. Might be a bit fast per your desires:
2.5 Cheddite hull and primer
25.5gr Longshot
z16 wad
7/8oz of ITX #6 shot (from BPI, Non-tox, safe for all barrels)
vel. 1361
PSI 6866
(roll crimped)
2.5" Fiocchi hull and primer
18grains of Clays
SG 16
7/8oz lead
Vel 1280
PSI 9400
2.5" Cheddite or Fio hull and primer
21gr of PB
SG 16
7/8oz
1250
PSI around 8K I think.
All these were roll crimped however, not sure how they fit with a fold. |

The nice people from Precision Reloading came up with this load for me in one day, Christmas eve no less. This is exactly what I'm looking for as it uses Universal Clays which is the powder I've been shooting in 20 and 28GA shells:
Cheddite 2 1/2" hulls(which I believe is the RST hull)
Remington Primers
TUWG 2116 Wads
18 Grains Universal Clays
1177FPS
7400 PSI
7/8 oz lead shot
They have plenty of the 2116 wads in stock but don't have any of the 1916 listed in the earlier loads. Thanks for all the help guys. |

I gotta get started in loading the 16. So much more I could do.
I think I'll make it my #1 project for 2010. |

Al and Tom, both of y'all need to reload for your 16's. Of course you could just keep buying factory and send me your empty hulls
Judy and I hope you had a Merry Christmas and will have a prosperous new year. |

Wiss and I hope all of our friends had a Merry Xmas and will have a great New Year.
Already looking forward to Scarborough this coming year.
Al,
OH, there will be a dedicated Man Cave in NH. If we do anything with the one we are going back to look at, it's already there. Along with 21 acres to hunt and shoot on.
I've loaded for everything I shoot over the years except shotguns. Just never got into it.
Plus, with about 40 cases of RGLs and FedGLs still in the basement (I keep adding to it so the supply doesn't go down) I just can't get motivated to get started. |

Deal on 15 acres kinda fell through, we're backing out.
Going back up after New Years to relook at a house and barn on 21 acres along with another house on 16 acres.
We'll be here for another yr or so. Less if we stumble onto something that really grabs us. We're in no real hurry as we have a place to live. We just want to get outta NJ. |
