I really like the April/May issue of Retriever Journal magazine!! On Page 37, there is an article by Steve Smith on Ugartechea Doubles and he has sensible ideas on light guns and heavy loads; it's a combination he doesn't care for. He ordered a 16 gauge Ugartechea Upland Classic Gr. I and discussed it among others....Also, in the article "Performance Evaluation" by James Keldsen, the Golden Retriever shown on pages 46 and 47 is my own hunting dog, Pal....I'd guess this dog has had over 100 pheasants shot over him in the last 3 years.... |

I understand---this is my second Golden; my first one died a few weeks after 9/11---that was a bad autumn for me. My first dog hunted ducks, geese, sharptails and Hungarian Partridge with me in North Dakota as well as ducks, doves, quail and pheasants here and in Iowa. He was a fearless, tireless hunter and retriever, and was 11 years old when he died. He was a fighter and you'd have to watch him in the field; he once tangled with a"nest" of 4 raccoons and I still remember my son, 16 at the time, wading into the middle of the mess and having to shoot 2 of them to break it up....We still miss that dog very much. This dog in the magazine article has a different personality and may be as good, but in a different way.... |
