I was in the Boise gun co. the other day. I picked up and fondled a great looking side plated 16ga. It was a round actioned older gun. The markings on the rib were "Edward Paton &Son Gunmakers Perth". Anyone know about this gun? The quality was equal to the English Best. Regards, Larry |

Can't tell you anything about the quality, but it's likely a pretty old gun. According to the information I have, Paton & Son was bought out by MacNaughton in 1895, so it's likely over 100 years old. Proof marks would be the way to nail down how old for sure, as well as whether it's been reproofed, etc. If you can get a look at the barrel flats and copy down everything you find, we can probably tell you more.
Ejector or extractor gun? And is it a sidelock, or a sideplated boxlock? |

Hammer gun? Damascus bbls? Many of the older hammer doubles were back action side locks. |

Thanks for the reply. It will be a while before I get to Boise again. It is a back action sidelock. no hammers and no damascus barrels. Larry |
