Was looking through Cabelas list of new Fausti side-by-side DEA-SL 16 gauge shotguns.
Nearly every one was choked IC/M.
Only a couple of M/F.
Thought the inventory mix would be more balanced.
Also, they seem to have only one 16 gauge per store and not every store has even one.
Where I hunt pheasant in corn fields and grain stubble, the full choke would come in handy.
Also, a whole lot more of my shells get shot on the trap range than in the field (not of my liking but due to available time), and the full choke would be helpful there.
Thoughts ?

As far as the IC/M configuration goes, that seems to be prevalent for many manufacturers' current production, not just Fausti. I think they're trying to cover the broadest range of field shooting presentations with the IC/M, and my own experience with pheasants is that I've brought down birds even with the first barrel (IC) at a pretty good distance in the corn fields to my own surprise.
As mentioned in another thread, choice of ammo can make a difference in patterning, so you may be able to get close-to-full performance with the Mod. barrel if you fiddle around a bit. Last year using a borrowed 16ga. with IC/M at shooting B&P #5 & #6 I did fine for pheasants.
Cabelas seems to spread out their inventory of new guns nationwide; not surprising that they have just one of a particular model in each gun room. If you see one online that you're interested in, they'd probably be willing to get it shipped to the store nearest you for a look. |

Found a new 16 gauge Fausti side-by-side DEA-SL with modified / full chokes, 28-inch barrels, double-triggers, straight English grip, splinter forend, with engraved false sideplates at one of the Cabelas on the web.
A hair less than six pounds.
$3,200
Is this too high a price ?

My buddy bought his for exactly that price, so you wouldn't be the first to pay it. They are nice little guns. Personally if I were paying in that neighborhood for a 16ga SxS I'd be looking at Merkel 1620s, but the DEAs do have an appeal. |
