Anyone have any comments about this gun and what kind of price you should pay? Thanks

From what I know, they are somewhat over 7 pounds. That is a bit heavy for an SxS 16. I don't know who makes them, but I've heard it is a Zabala produced barreled action thats stocked by another gun making house.

Don...

I bought one last summer in Fort Worth. It does weigh close to 7 lbs and it is made by Zabala. But for my money, it was a good buy. It balances beautifully so the weight is not really an issue, particularly if you have carried 12 ga guns in the field in the past as I have. It shoots well and is deadly with 6's on pheasant and 8's on quail. I have some "higher grade" 16's but this one is great for going into the field, because I don't care if I knock it about a bit!

Since you are in SW MO and I'm in NW AR, we probably could arrange for you to try out my gun if you wish. I am a member of a trap/skeet club right on the state line and would be pleased to let you give the gun a try. PM me if interested.

Hey Ol' Southern Lawyer:

Is that BSA Classic in 16 ga:

28 inch barrels?

fixed mod/full chokes?

chrome lined bores?

I bought a BSA Royal in 20 gauge with choke tubes and am happy Smile . I would buy a 16 ga classic if it were tubed or if I could have chokes opened up (not chrome lined).

thanks.....

Greetings, Bustingclays!

Back from a few days out of town and can answer your inquiry. You raise a good question. I liked the looks of the BSA in the literature, but was only shopping for a 16 ga sxs with multi chokes. Only the 12 and 20 had multi-chokes, so I faced the same dilemma as you.

Lo and behold, while on a trip to Dallas/Ft. Worth a few months ago, I spotted the gun in a rack at Cabela's. It was a 16 gauge, had a full set of chokes, chrome bores and 28 in barrels. I about dropped my teeth. I began to drool on the floor, but regained my composure quickly enough to arrange for immediate purchase!

As to how this gun got there, the store rep only said it came in with a routine delivery of guns from BSA. My guess is that this is one that may have been made for Bill Hanus with the multi-chokes and got shipped to Cabelas by accident or as an overrun for quick sale.

Really, I was not gonna look too far into it...just take it out for some shooting. So far, it shoots and handles well. I got BSA to send me a couple skeet chokes and shoot wobble trap with the gun every chance I get!

OSL, you mentioned the weight as close to 7 pounds. Is that over or under 7 pounds. The catalog lists it at 7 lb. 4 oz.. It is the only issue I have with the gun. It is a good looking number.

16 GG...

Good question! The flyer I got from BSA on the gun specified a weight for the 16 ga 28 in barrel model at 6 lbs 14 oz...plus or minus based on wood density.

I weighed mine on a friend's "flat scale" since I don't have a hang scale for guns. While not a perfect measure, we have weighed on it before against weighing on hang scales and it is close...generally within an ounce or two. Mine showed a weight of 6lbs 12 oz which should place it well within spec. At any rate, it balances pretty well and is fun to shoot.

Thanks for th input. that is exactly the weight of my AyA "Matty" with 28" barrels. It is a very nice gun to shoot and far quicker to the shoulder than the weight would indictate. Looks like the BSA marketing department should restate the facts. It looks like all they did was copy the 12 ga. weight. What dorks some of these bozos prove to be. Now that the guns are about gone, I learn the facts. Sheesh! Well, at least the "Matty" is a good one.
