Are the Rio's any good? I've seen them somewhere cheaper than any other 16ga ammo. Or would I be better off saving longer to get Feds or Wins?

I've shot Rio 20ga shells at a few shotgun ranges. They were about the same as Federal Dove hulls. If the 16s are similar to the 20s MO is that they'd work for one reload. If you want a more durable hull get something else.

I don't reload, just wanting something reasonably priced in a 1 1/8oz 7 1/2 load. I really like Federals, but the price is tough on any thing heavier than 1oz.

Able ammo has the Rio heavy field 1 1/8 7 1/2, 1300fps for $7.39 or $6.39 for 10 boxes or more.
What about PMC shotgun ammo? they've got it in the same load for $10.45 & $9.93 for 10 or more.
they got the Feds for $12.74 & $12.10

None of the Rios reliably cycle my Super Black Eagle. Not a concern with the typical 16, I'm sure, but, I thought I'd pass that fact along.
Been avoiding cheap ammo of late. Everything just goes better that way.

Best,
Ted

OK, I may not need that extra 1/8ox of shot, but I REALLY WANT it. To get the consistant 1295-1300fps, the 1 1/8oz load is the one I need. The 1oz loads all run around 1165fps. No more than I shoot, I like to stick with one load for all my shooting.
Our Wal Mart has nothing, even 12 and 20ga for under $6.47 plus tax. That's $6.99 out the door. That blows, considering a Rem ammo plant is only 50 miles away.
I've never been acussed of being too bright.

A bunch of folks are shooting recreational skeet and trap at our club with Rio loads. I've seen the guys shooting everything but 16 ga. This has included 2.5 and 3.0 inch .410 loads. Haven't heard any complaints yet, so I guess Rio ammo is keeping everyone at least satisfied as far as price and performance go.

I can't comment beyond this other than to say the Rio empties all look a lot like Estate, Cheddite, Winchester, and Fiocchi polyformed hulls. The brass is actually plated steel. The plastic tube walls are about the same thickness. The flat plastic base wads appear to be identical or at least extremely similar as well. These are probably the same generic type hulls now being used industry wide by the majority of brands for this price class of imported ammo.

I shoot mostly Rio through my DT-10 (12ga.); no problems. I've tried some of their 16ga. through my 2016 and got good results as well. That being said, I prefer the B&P 16ga. but it is more expensive.

I've never shot their 16ga ammo but a couple yrs ago I had a CG Sporting gun in 12 ga and used their ammo.
Very dirty. Always worked without issue but was a very dirty shooting ammo. Lots of unburned powder and very black residue from the burned powder.

But like I said, it went off and broke birds.
