Just aquired an LC but need some information on take down.
I need to refinish the wood. and I never had an LC apart before. Is there some special way to remove the stock. I know there is a cocking tool but I don't intend to take the locks apart. I just want to redo the wood and point up the checkering. I know their is some die hard LC shooters out there.
Thanks |

Disassembly is not the problem---- reassembly is ! Suggest you post your question on lcsmith.org. They can walk you through it. |

I hope that before you took the forend off, you re-cocked the hammers, If not, you will have to take the sideplates off, no problem, and re-cock the hammers with a pair of water pump pliers. It is not the right way to do it, but if you are careful, and adjust the pliers, and don't slip off the hammers and mar them, it will be fine. Make it a point to buy snap caps if you don't have them already, when the gun is together you really shouldn't leave pressure on the springs, but you have to RE-COCK before taking it apart.
If you have the gun apart by now, at the end of the receiver, the cocking arms should be loose and you can move them with your fingers if it is recocked. |
