Hello everyone, new to this site. Want to know if anybody has a reload for 16 ga. 2 1/2". I need to buy the hulls, Graf & Sons is out of them. So if anybody knows where else to purchase hulls, I would appreciate it. Also is there a manual out there for re-loading that included 2 1/2" shells. I used to reload 12's, and 20's, but not in 20 years. Would like to get back into it, have a Mec 650 just have to get the componets for 16 ga. Also, what would I have to do for crimping the shorter shell? Thanks.

David,
Welcome to the site. These are a bunch of friendly and helpful guys.
I'll tell you what works for me for 2 1/2" loads. I order Fiochhi or Chedite hulls from www.ballisticproducts.com
I then use their hull trimmer to shorten them to 2 1/2", though you could use a moto tool, a band saw or probably a dozen other ways to shorten them. A load that works great for me in my guns, though not necessarily in yours is the following: Above mentioned hull (already primed), BP's Sporting 16 wad, 20 grains of Unique, 7/8 ounce shot, an over shot card and a roll crimp. BP has a roll crimping die that chucks in a drill press or hand drill, and a vise for holding the shell while roll crimping. It's easy and doesn't take as much time as you would think.

XVIgauge,
Do you know the PSI of the load you mentioned?
I just sent these 3 loads in for testing:
All 3 are made with new 2-1/2" Cheddite hulls from Graf's and
I'm assuming cheddite primers, since they came primed.
R-16 wads, 1oz shot, 1 - .030" overshot card, and roll crimped.
#1 has 19.5 grains IMR 7625
#2 has 22 grains IMR 7625
#3 has 18.5 grains Unique

I do not know the PSI on these loads yet, do NOT use them!

I will post results when I get them.

Thanks for the help, do you know if there is a one-piece wad to use in the shorter shells and can it be crimped?

David, you really need to look at the first post in this thread.
16 gauge low pressrue group, and join this group.
More low pressure info than you can use. Laughing

David,

Don't reload so I can't help you there, but I wanted to welcome you to the site. Dave M is right: lots of good folks here. Maybe somewhere down the line I can help out with one of your questions, or you with one of mine! Enjoy...

Dave M,
one of the manuals I have lists the 2 1/2" 11/16 ounce load at 1165 fps and 8000 psi.
the same manual lists the 2 3/4" 7/8 ounce load w/ 21 grains of Unique at 1290 fps and 9,300 psi

XVIgauge, both of those loads are higher than I want to shoot. I like mine at 7600 PSI or less. It will be interesting to see how those loads I submitted turn out. Hopefully I'll get the results this week.
