The April issue of the NRA's "American Hunter" has a brief article on the termonology associated with SXS shotguns. Showing pics of the action and breech it points out the "Lump", "Bite", "Hook" "Cocking Rod" etc. etc. Now I have a name for my thingamagiggers. If anyone has an interest, I will scan it on Monday and e-mail it to interested parties.

It's very useful to know what to call the various parts. However, you have to be a bit careful, because British and American terminology are different for quite a few different gun terms. Sort of like their saying "bonnet" of the car, and our saying "hood". And those funny short pants they wear when they shoot: don't refer to them as knickers, which to a Brit means panties.

And when you get into foreign language gun terms, it really gets weird. Sideclips . . . the French use their word for "wings" for those. Took me some time to figure that one out.
