Got a question for everyone. I just got 1000 new 2-1/2" Cheddite hulls.
I'm going to load these low pressure for my Damascus guns, and I want to roll crimp them. I understand you have to skive new hulls for 6 or 8 point crimps. But do you have to skive them for roll crimping? I will be using a small drill press for the crimping.
Thanks, Dave Miles |

Hey Dave, no need to skive new hulls when roll crimping.
Ya, I know. I just loaded some up and they worked great.
Now off they go to be pressure tested. |

Easy on the roll crimp-you can easily melt the plastic--after a few you should get the feel for it |

hoashooter, I took it slow and easy. I don't believe I melted the plastic.
Shells look great. I loaded 3 different loads, with the R-16 wad. I'm sending them to Tom for testing today. |

Dave, you chump I called late Wednesday and they were out. You must have purchased the last of them. Did you order from Graff and Sons? They are habitually out of stock. Don't know why they don't just order twice as many. Would sure like to see a pic of these hulls rolled crimped. I am too lazy to roll crimp and use a six pt after skivving. Bob |

Bronco, yes I got them from Graffs. I would've ordered a couple thousand if I know they were going to run out. I already shipped out the ones I did for testing. I will post pictures when I do some more. I'll probably wait till I get the pressure test back before doing anymore.
These are the loads I'm submitting:
All 3 are made with new 2-1/2" Cheddite hulls from Graf's and
I'm assuming cheddite primers, since they came primed.
R-16 wads, 1oz shot, 1 - .030" overshot card, and roll crimped.
#1 has 19.5 grains IMR 7625
#2 has 22 grains IMR 7625
#3 has 18.5 grains Unique

Update on these loads!

The Cheddite hulls are .675" I.D.
The Remington R-16 wad is .635" O.D.
So, I had a bad powder migration problem with loads #1 and #2
#3 wasn't as bad with the bigger flake powder.
I'm going to redo these loads with a .680" O.D. Nitro card under the wad.
Will post new results after testing.
