Put the sneak on a large group of wild turkeys while fly fishing yesterday. I usually carry a camera or two when I float the river and am real glad I did. The birds had me pinned down for a while but persistence paid off. I could have bagged this guy with a green walnut and a slingshot! I think I may have to go turkey hunting come April.

He looks a bit bronze to be a Merriam's, but the tips of his rear feathers are more white than tan. Could be the light, iridescence, or perhaps it a hybrid. He's a dandy though and his picture belongs in a magazine. Only thing missing are the sunglasses. Well done!

Sure looks like the Rio's I have seen in Texas. The Merriam's here in AZ do not look at all like that bird. |
