Guys with a all this talk about the 16ga. It's time to start to think about getting an under/over.
I am training my CBR. The retriever club found out I can shoot a little. I miss less than the guy before me so I am always shooting birds for them.
Now if the Tax man is nice this year.
I would like to get a new BB gun, 16 banger of course.
Any suggestions on a U/O for around $1000.00. I may get an 870. I don't know.... HELP.. ........ |

I think your best choice for around the $1000 mark would be a used Citori. Unless you want to look at a much older used gun and seek out a nice Sterlingworth. |

See the 'What is the best 16g. for the money' thread on p.2 of the General Discussion forum. 3 pages of thoughts and advice. |

Hey John:
just an fyi of course....
I've got $1400 in a grade 3 26" sissytori (thanks, revdocdrew I can't get that out of my vocabulary now) and $976 and change in another 28" lightning sissytori both in 16 ga. Got the grade III locally 2 years ago and the lightning last December on gunbroker. WATCH all the time.
I am aiming higher now. I have a call in to a dealer friend to reserve one of the NEW grade VI 16 ga in gray receiver and 28 inch barrels - if price is right of course. NO I won't sell either of the 2 above sissytoris (at least until they beat the revdocdrew parker/strelingworth contingent ).
As an addtional point - I have about $300 in a nice AYA Matador sxs in 16 ga. Just like 16gg - I love mine and by all accounts that new englander 16gg does too.
shop around (and tell me of any 16ga guns you find that you aren't buying by PM so I can buy before the good doc and 16gg (and the rest of the bunch...) |

Maybe I am missing something here, but I have not seen, read, or heard of a 16 gauge Citori, not on the forums, in the magazines, on the auctions, or on any other for sale websites going for "around" $1000. From what I have seen, they are considerably more and going up all the time.
I have a DeHaan 16 O/U and I highly recommend it. Great quality for the price (less than $800) and it handles and balances better than my 20 or my 12 gauge Citori's (each of which I hardly use anymore).

John,Glad to hear that I'm not the only guy being trained by a CBR (Crazy Brown Retriever). If you don't go o/u, take a look at a model12 in 16 bore.Nothing against the 870's in the gun safe but my eye is always drawn to the old Winchester first. It's a nice light gun to carry if you're trying to tire out a young dog. |
