Just ordered my Bismuth #4's. I have a couple of loads from the Yahoo pages, anybody have anything different they really like? I think I need something pretty heavy to fill the pattern with those 4's.

It’s not tested but I like sub bismuth in this lead load 1 1/8 blue dot federal hull 209a sp16. The load is listed at 1295 and 8600 psi. https://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/powderlist.aspx?page=/reloaders/powderlist.aspx&type=2&powderid=10&gauge=16

I am comfortable substituting Bismuth for Lead in most tested recipes, especially when loading by shot volume. Bismuth is slightly less dense than lead so the same volume of shot should weigh slightly less than lead. So its effects on pressure and velocity should be slight, if it all from the tested data. The only caveat I have to this statement, it only applies to non-buffered recipes.

Adding buffer to a bismuth load can increase pressures. Personally I never saw the need to add buffer especially with #4s and #5s. Mine all patterned well and were very effective on ducks.

Thanks for the comments, Russ. Thats good to know. Fortunately for nearly all of my upland hunting I'm able to still use lead.

I'm going to have to try it. I haven't had the need for non toxic in anything other that a 12 until last couple of days. Ishot ducks with my 28 and 16 with Kent bismuth that performed very well. not going to pay those high prices though for a box. I have all the components and the means to load it except for the shot.

What chokes are you all using for Bismuth, for examole when shooting a semi and only one choke choice possible. I figure mod and full for my SxSs but not sure whenever to use Mod or Full for the A5
