Yes, you squeeze it with your index finger and it slides up along the rear of the trigger guard. |

The Lever lets you open it, cock it, or de-cock it. |

Rockie was instrumental in my acquisition of this 314 in 16 ga. Brought it in from France, which is probably worth its own topic. Biggest problem was that the seller in France had never shipped international, and it took three months to get it here. Paperwork, fees, duties, shipping, et al ended up costing almost half the purchase price. And since it sat in the case for three months, the right side of the barrels rusted. It will be going off to Keith Kearcher end of the month to get the barrels re-done and some other small issues addressed. 5lb 14, and closes with a definitive click, rather than the usual "clunk."
Here it is resting on some brush in the Sunflower State.

Yes, always good to see pictures, but other than what you'll find in this thread, I'd advise a Google search. You'll know as much about them as I do then.
I might be able to turn up a list of manufacture dates if anyone's interested. |

You have a marvelously engineered, lightweight, round action bird gun. This book is a wealth of information (even without knowing French):

The double gun bbs also has some who are in the know, perhaps none more informed than Dustin Maraquin.

Mikeee is right! The Ideal is a most delightful little field gun. I obtained one several months ago...a semi-custom model from 1899 and it is a blast to shoot. Still locks up like a safe and shoots about any 2 1/2 inch load you feed it...within reason, of course. YMMV.
As to further info on these guns, Mikeee is correct that Dustin knows plenty. He is a "good lad" and always happy to share his knowledge of guns and the shooting sports. The same may be said of Postoak who is also quite knowledgeable about French shotguns.
Now as to Wingshooter...how ya doin' Mikeee??? I feel so unloved. You haven't called...or written...or sent flowers... |

Was getting updates on you and the gang from Rockie. I will call soon, but don't hold your breath on the flowers. |

One thing I know about Ideals, is that when you think you know something you will see another Ideal that will blow that knowledge out of the water,
It is my belief is that many were built with custom features.
Dustin is much smarter than I am, and he is much better looking
stribaldosb - we would love to see some photo - especially of the markings under the barrels and the action flats. |

Hello, thanks to everybody for the comments. I will upload some pics ASAP.
I have not used the gun before, but my father did long time ago. I did not want to use it because I was afraid to break it, because of the age of the gun, but as I can see there is no problem in to using it.
Regards,

The Ideal action is one of the strongest in existence, easily employed on double rifles. Ideals often have pitted barrels from corrosive primers, so give them a good look. Of course, if there is legitimate reason for concerns, have a competent smith check yours out. If it is grade 6 or above, I will be glad to take it and any concerns off your hands.
Are you by any chance in Argentina? Many Ideals are in use there. |

Mikeee...it was good chatting with you last night! You are forgiven for not calling or writing sooner!
I may even forgive you for not sending flowers, since you sent all the nice candy on Valentine's Day. But listen...time to start paying more attention to these things, Bud...I know I am a fun date...but I don't come cheap!
See you on Ze Fruity Freeench Shuutin' Squad, mon ami, along with Monsieur "Postoak" Rockie... |
