I have a 1960 Belgium Sweet Sixteen. I'm looking at purchasing a Japanese made Sweet Sixteen barrel with the invector chokes. If I recall from what I've read in the past these newer barrels will fit my gun, correct? But do the Japanese made barrels not have the holes in the barrel band like the Belgium made barrels? Because the invector barrels I've seen don't have the holes. |

They will fit and the Japanese barrel do not have the holes in the ring but do have a milled out recess inside the barrel ring to lighten them a bit. |

Thanks. That's what I thought but figured I better make sure. I do think the Japanese barrels are a little heavier. |

Yes Japanese barrels are heavier and you will have to relieve a little wood out of the forearm channel , which is a simple process . |

Really debating whether or not I need an Invector barrel for my Sweet. It would just give me another option in the use of non-tox. Right now I'm sitting on about 160 rounds of Kent TM for non-tox area. That will last me a few years at the rate I use it. Guess if I could buy the barrel cheap enough I'd probably pick it up. What's a 26" Japanese invector barrel in fair to good condition worth? |

It would be cheaper to find a used barrel with a Poly-Choke if you want to shoot steel.

Sorry, don't want a Poly on the end.
Back to my question: What's a Japanese Invector Barrel worth? |

It's worth whatever you're willing to pay when you find one (which isn't too often).
I spent a few years tracking down an Invector choked Light Twelve barrel that didn't cost as much as an entire gun. In that time I ran across a few Invector choked 16ga barrels. They were all priced between $500.00 and $700.00.
Cheers,
Marcus |

New question! Look at this listing on eBay for a SweetSixteen barrel.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=271315993692&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123
I questioned the seller about the barrel being for a SweetSixteen since I could not see the holes in the barrel ring. There are no holes but the ring has a concave shape to it. I haven't seen one like this. What's the scoop? |

That third star in the choke markings looks a lot brighter than the other two, maybe it's just catching the light right to give it that effect. Either way, and I hadn't thought of it before, but a Full or Mod barrel could be reamed to straight cylinder and an artistic enough 'smith should be able to dulpicate the stars and refinish to clean up the finished product. Or, even just ream to IC and stamp in the dash to match the new choke. Presumably the factory could do that if a customer sent back a barrel for modification---I've seen Winchester barrels with the original marking lined out and the new choke stamped below (or was it above?)
I keep an eye out for a potential additional barrel for my Sweet, expect to pay no less than $450 for a nice one. I'd like a plain barrel with open choke, but if I find a tighter choke it can always be opened up. Cheaper to just have chokes installed, though. |

I lucked out and found a std 16ga barrel from a gun that had been junked for parts for a $125.00 and sent it off to Briley and got a set of thin wall screw ins and a new brass bead for about $300.00 so I still wound up with over $400.00 in it and can't shoot steel but I'm really happy with the ability to shoot skeet or change chokes and go over to the trap field and I still have the original barrel for those guys that think the Briley chokes in a A5 16 is such a terriablable almost unforgivable sin.
Seems like no mater how you do it to get a old gun with changeable chokes your gonna be lucky to do it for less that $500.00 and that kinda sucks I think. I only gave $225.00 for the gun and can sell the barrel for $400.00 but would be lucky to get $350.00 for the entire gun! What's wrong with this picture? It's worth more as parts than a shooting gun! |
