ok , most of you know I have a 20 on order wtih a Ct company. I still haven't pulled the trigger(pun intended) and given them the balance , so I still have a out. I have 3 thoughts(alot for me) on if I still want it, so a little advice would be welcomed.
As far as the inhrent value of these projects, well it's not that important.
Ie:3- 4k on a 1000 dollar gun(lc project) turkish gun that may not hold value(3500ish), American new classic(3800), that may increase in value, decrease, or never show. None of the $ involved is going to kill me down the road. Loss/gain whatever.

1st, just get it over with, and give them the cash, 7-8 month delivery(3800)

2nd I may have mentioned I have a Lc field in 16 that I'm doing a makeover on. 30" barrels, it will be restocked, thinwall tubes, reciever blued/blacked and the lc on the recevier gold filled.(semi funeral style)
Cancel the 20 and throw a goodly protion of that money on the smith..
the previous budget for the smith was 3kish , so now say 4+ k (cause much more would be really silly) 6-12 months

3rd. one of the dehann 16's the semi custom sc finished reciever(engraving that I cant see on my screen) with the case colored reciever.
base gun 1550, wood upgrade 700-1000, auto saftey 40, stock tear drops 25, 32" barrel up grade 75., xtra barrel set in 20 700. beaver forearm 25 I'd be setting this gun up as a Sc thing(reason for the beaver forearm) 3500 ish 6 month ish

Time isn't that important, as they are all similar, And I still have the Austrian hammer in 16 the Simson in 16 and the pheasent killing laser beam merkel 1620

so what do you guys think??
perhaps other options??, but not the one Rev is sure to make" with all that cash why don't you corner the market on wirlingworths and buy them all"
Needs to be a sxs.

You forgot about option #4--steal your buddie's 16 ga. double when he turns his back and tell him gypsies did it. Laughing

Another option-take delivery of the 20, and flip the gun, pronto, if it isn't to your liking. List it within a day or so of delivery on one of the auction sites, and it will likely sell for a bit more than you paid. THEN use that money to complete the 'Smith to your liking. Worth a try...
Best,
Ted

Ted, good idea, just seems like a lot of work to make a few hundred dollars. but I suppose the lc thing is going forward anyhow, it would just be tying up the 20ga money, hummmm

16gaguy, what do you have for sxs's and if they are nice(xcept tht beretta thing) when you , myself, and my gypsy buddy going shooting??

Oh Thuddd, we all understand your embarassment about your Merkel Embarassed and your desire to have a gun that's special to you. Save yourself alot of hassle and just get the pristine 16g. VH Parker at WilliamLarkinMoore (asking $4200) or a nice skeet grade M-21. You won't lose money if your needs, wants, dreams change in the future and will have something that will give you alot of pleasure and pride in using. Throw the Merkel in the yard for Beau to use as a chew toy and take it out in the field when no one is looking. Laughing

Rev, I was giving you all the respect as someone of your advanceing years deserves, with regards certainly to your advice on the Parker, even ignoring your sladerious statment about my beloved Merkel but then you go and blow it with a joke about putting a M21 in the safe. I've had the missfortune to handle one of those things, and tire iron is being generous. The 2 stevens 5100(in 16, for my nephews) I have, wrapped together with duct tape, probably have more feel than one of those clubs.

Golden chickens.
I have to admit, upon relfection you may be correct(that pains me more than you can imagine). In so far as not getting the dehann. I think the dehann might very well be a waste, as there plenty of others in that $ range.
I do want to do the Lc, mostly so I don't have to hear about your"classic" worlingworth.

Csmc just emailed asking if wanted to pay off my gun with the gauge other than 16......
Guess were getting to crunch time

First, if we are going to be buddies, lets get something straight. I am not a gaguy. You can call me gaugeguy, or you can call me 16gaugeguy, or you can call me16gguy, or you can call me 16gg, or you can call me 16guy, but you don't have to call me gaguy. Rolling Eyes I'm certainly happy-go-lucky but I'm not gay, nor even gaga---well maybe about my wonderful, straight shootin, pheasant smackin, quail poppin, grouse gettin Beretta. Everyone knows the Beretta that is easily the better of those sorry looking plain jane merkles. Wink

Tell your gypsy buddy that I'll be totin that old pair of Ivy johnson single shooters that were taped together and spray painted silver. I bought them from a fellow who swore up and down it was an American classis side by side. Come to think of it, they are side by side. Anyone in the market for a deal on this fine AMerican classic? Think of it as a twofer. Laughing

Some guys get all the luck.
Soory for the inferance that you and Tjc have something in common(remeber when tjc said he goes 3 ways, when he's not involved in kitty porn)

Anyway, sorry.
tim

I guess I won't be leaving any of my 16's sitting around when Hun is near me. Wink

I think I would take the $$ and look towards an upgraded 20 ga. Merkel. Will cost you a bit more but stays in line with what you have.

Nice 147e with 30" barrels, at Kittery, in a gauge other than 16, only real problem is the pistol grip. 4k

Hmm... interesting quandry.

I would vote for option 5 suggested by Ted. Get the rbl, see if you like it, if you don't turn it around and use the extra 1K and change on redoing the LC and then save the rest for some of the new 16's coming out down the road.

I would seriously look at that new 16 Kimber if you were thinking about doing the DeHaann.

As for 16gg and TJC, uh... you are on you own there. Cool

I wonder what my Ky compatriot Brad6240 would suggest here. Come on Brad chime in with your recommendation.

Brad (from that better part of Kentucky... Lexington)

Ky Brad, your's seems to be the prevalent train of thought. A number of Pm's and a phone call from a guy with a desparaging view of merkels....
So probably let the wheel spin, and see where the little ball stops..
tim

not to bad mouth the dehann, cause I think they are great value
