A notice on the SSM board made me wonder just how much interest there is in 16 gauge Skeet or Trap. I am thinking of competition for game guns only. No tube sets, no 'full race' M-21's, etc. I am running an event for 16's only at the National Classic Shotgun Festival.

Game guns would be defined as SxS's with double triggers, splinters, and 28 inch or shorter barrels perhaps. Pump guns, A-5's, and other auto's w/o vent ribs would perhaps be considered?

I know NSSA would sanction events under their Event 6 program.

Would you shoot? Why or why not?

Clay target games could help hone your game shooting skills and permit you to shoot year round!.

It would be nice to see 16ga events. I understand no tubes just 16 guns only. But I would rather see any 16ga guns. I mainly shoot a sxs but I have pumps and o/u . Also shoot any load you can stuff in that 16 hull.

Don't put barrel length restrictions, or I guess, choke tubes. My lc has 30" barrels.

So my Browning O/U would not qualify then? Definately a field gun.

Probably doesn't make sense to invite guys to shoot their 16s then tell 1/2 of them they can't use the gun they brung?
Might be easier to have an open/competition class (no restrictions) and a classic/game gun class-solid ribs OK (no vent rib), no brl length restriction, no adjustable combs, no choke tubes, single or double trigger OK.
Sounds like fun Very Happy

I'm with Drew. Run whatchabrung. I'm not up on the 21's. Why would a 21 be a full race gun? I guess if your lucky enought(or foolish, depending on my view) to have a p-gun or k-gun, done in 16ga, and you can clean up, I'd say have at it. but like the old adage says beware of the one eyed rev from az with a worlingworth......or some such nonsence.

I would think if there is hope for a 16g skeet/trap event that the same general rules should be applied as with the other gauge guns. Just take the rules and insert 16g.(IMHO) Other wise it is just a passing fun shoot like the classic SxS and black powde events. I would shoot it eitherway.
Best,
Ron

I'm personally not worth a hoot at Trap. But I'd love to see, and shoot in, some kind of Classic SxS 16 gauge fun competion. Say like skeet, 5 stand, or sporting clays. I could shoot my 10 gauge, with 2 oz. loads at trap, and still come in last. Laughing

TJC, Hun, and the rest of you Merkel maniacs: Don't think Hal is gonna let y'all use the laser assisted beam (LAB) device even in the 'unlimited' class Very Happy and do the LABs work better when you feed them cats or some dead possum they found in the last field??

I don't do Labs. Drahthaars here, good German line dogs with a good German gun over them when in the field. Very Happy

If you can stuff a 16ga shell in it shoot it. I do like the low gun rule though, and the delay. Kinda evens things out.
