I've been approached by someone interested in trading me a 16ga. Flues for a classic cane fly rod. I am clueless when it comes to Ithaca's. He was headed out on a fishing trip so I won't be able to question him about the guns until Saturday. He did state in his e-mail that the guns were hunting guns and not in mint shape but in good shape. One is a 28" barrel choked imp. cy./mod. The other (the one I would be interested in) is 28" barrel choked mod/full.

I don't know what grades they are but I'm thinking field grade as he told me one weighs just under 6 lbs. and the other weighs just over 6 lbs. He said both guns have setters ingraved on both sides.

I have heard that the field grade flues had to be shot with very low pressure loads, under 8,000 psi.

I would appreciate any suggestions on pertinent questions to ask him other than the obvious, chamber size, etc. The value of the rod is in the $900-$1000 range.

Matt, send the one you don't want to me, I'll try some different Lp loads in it for you

I have a 16 flues and it is in great shape 30 in barr. FF and I got it for 800
finding low pressure loads is no troubble at all.
The gun is great in the field and easy to carry

I don't think the grade makes a difference (field, etc) but I have heard that Flues models are prone to cracked frames and thererfore one should shoot only low presssue loads in them. I'm not sure of the specs of the loads you should use; maybe Larry Brown or one of the other guys here who are more "techie" than I can tell you. They are beautiful guns. I would certainly take a look at them if I were you. What brand of rod are you trading? Good luck...
