Just curious. Does anyone make a set of tubes for a 12ga to 16ga conversion? I have an old Parker, with Damascus barrels in 12ga. I would like to tube it for 16ga without spending a couple thousand for the Teague venture. Thanks for the help.

Briley seems to think their short tube options are only good for 12-20 downsizing. They were reluctant to offer a 12-16 option for my Damascus barrels. It's a shame someone doesn't make replacement barrels for popular old shotguns. If so, I'm sure the price would be prohibitive.

Charles, How bad are your barrels? If there that bad, I wouldn't shoot 16 gauge loads from a short tube. You can reload 12 gauge to a much lower pressure than you can 16 gauge. Have you had the barrel walls measured?
What makes you think it's not safe to shoot. Or do you just want to shoot 16 gauge in her. |

No one makes 12 to 16 'tubes', the size difference between the two would make them much too thin. |

Well Dave.....the barrels are not in bad shape. I was just thinking it would be nice to have another 16 in my cabinet, especially if it were a Parker. NOW......if I could happen onto a set of fluid steel barrels for a #1 frame it would be even better. I have a lock on an VH wih good barrels and that might be my best bet. Decisions....Decisions

Briley, Kirk Merrington, and others, can chamber sleeve the gun from 12 to 16. This is a permanent conversion, with the original chambers reamed to accept a 16 gauge chamber insert, which is soldered in. The original 12 gauge bores and chokes work fine with the conversion, and the pressure with the smaller ammunition is a non-issue. It is far cheaper than full length tubes, doesn't affect balance since the weight is installed between the hands, and is a great tool to keep old guns shooting.
If I had a damascus gun I'd certainly consider doing it to use as a shooter.
Best,
Ted |
