OK, not 16 gauge specifically but thought I'd share. Last fall while gunning at a training clinic I had a choke tube in a 20 gauge Remington Spartan SPR310s (Baikal) peel up on the leading edge. Fortunately I saw it before firing another round through that barrel. The tube is a skeet choke made by Carlson. I always make a point of checking the tubes to make sure they are seated tightly before shooting, and it was not loose.
I was ordering some ported chokes from Briley for my Browning 16's, and while I was at it I bought a new choke tube for the Remmy.
I thought I'd see how the two chokes compared. Here's how the measurements stack up:
Carlson Skeet Tube
Weight - 9.235 grams
ID/Muzzle - 0.615
ID/Leading edge - 0.625
OD - 0.6740
Briley Skeet Tube
Weight - 8.768 grams
ID/Muzzle - 0.6145
ID/Leading edge - 0.630
OD - 0.6735
Visually, the Briley has a slightly finer surface finish. The notches for the wrench in the muzzle end are narrower on the Briley, but I did not measure the notch width.
I'm not sure what caused the tube to get damaged - any thoughts? The barrels are ported. |

tube damage is usually caused by a drop on the floor or some other anomaly that causes a slight dent . Can be hard to notice and not easy to re-round . |

That certainly sounds reasonable, except it was never dropped - at least I never dropped it. Maybe somebody else did before it was shipped to me. It came out of the box, straight into the gun, and had somewhere around 1000 rounds shot through it before this happened. |

Hey,
Did you shoot any steel shot through it? Just curious as I have heard stories of mis-formed steel shot causing problems like these, never seen it myself. Thanks. |
