A-5 Sweet Sixteen, or the 20, or the Lt. Twelve....

Savage 720 (A5) of course . I also agree that the Win 50 is one of the smoothest shooters ever. I too have longed for a 16 a Montefeltro. For a sleeper look at the Franchi 712 and 720 Grifone.

The 6 3/4 pounds this one weighs is about as light as 16 gauge autos come, and the price was about half of what a used 1100 goes for (not to mention a new auto). If you don't need five shots, the 58 might be a good buy.

Also, the 1100s are certainly good guns, but if you want it as a field gun keep an eye on the weight. The later ones were just underbored 12 gauges and consequently were a bit portly.

Nice gun!

Fyi, I know of two sweet 16's locally, one mint and one near mint, both in the $1200 range.

geez , come on Nick - don't throw thosr BDA's in there . It's too much of a tease to know the ONLY 16 is a retired wall hanger . I do like them though because that drop down pistol grip is annoying to some , but the cats meow for me !

Among automatics, I have two Browning Sweet Sixteens, a Sportsman 48, and a Remington 1100 16 gauge made in 1964. The 1100 is the most versatile as it will cycle all loads down to 3/4 oz shot. The others are pretty much limited to 1 oz. For hunting, I tote either a Sweet Sixteen or the 48, depending on the yardage I expect to encounter, the SS having a Polychoke and the 48 an IC barrel.

Can't believe nobody's mentioned these. Two shots are enough.

Missed out on a silver reciever version this weekend.

He's referring to Charles' comment. BDA = Browning Double Auto (that one took me a minute, I'm a little slow on the uptake) I didn't know much about these guns until I did a little reading tonight. Really interesting. Can you imagine one of these in 16 gauge?!

Wow, impressive. THAT'S commitment to the gauge! Sounds a little cheesy but I'm always amazed at the level of skill/knowledge and DIY ethic of some of the folks on this forum. Shortage of 16 gauge semiautos? Just make one!

Whoa, I just checked it is 2012..........damn that's right this is the 16 Gauge Society, where the clock stopped ticking in 1963. Sorry guys wouldn't want to drag the 16 into the future where in needs to be. Embarassed
