I hope your experience w/ the Golden Phesant's is better than mine was. Lots of unburnt powder and split crimps were the norm. Salvaged the nickel plated shot and rolled my own load with some Longshot.....

I too prefer to load my own hunting ammo. However, My hat is off to Fiocchi for having the temerity to at least offer quality 16 ga. ammo. Now, if they would also offer a nice 3/4 or 7/8 ounce target load in a 2-3/4 inch shell, I'd really be in their corner.

Mike: Great idea about salvaging the plated shot. I've got about 6 boxes but I won't use them in my older double and they kick too hard anyways. I like to hunt with light guns. Also prefer to roll my own.

I don't know TJC this is pretty complicated stuff first you gotta de-prime and resize, then seat a new primer, drop a charge of powder, seat the wad, drop the shot and add the filler (if you are using a reduced load, start the crimp, set the crimp and besides doing all of that you have to remember to pull the handle down between each step. Can you handle all of that?

I wouldn't attempt doing this with Thuddd around.

Why not? Thuddd could pull the handle. Of course, this might require a 2X4 to let him know when. Laughing

Not sure though that I want to get involved with different wads, this case, oh yea don't forget the Puffed Wheat filler, cut the crimp, crimp before loading etc etc.
This 16 ga stuff requires a lot of thinking for loading. I'd rather just buy it.
It is much easier loading rifle and pistol. Case, primer, powder, and bullet. Smile
