It's not a 16 gauge, but here's a picture of me shooting ZZ Birds. At the U.P. Shoot, with my 10 gauge Damascus Parker. With Black Powder loads.

I'd like to give that a try--Both the zz birds and a blackpowder shotgun |

The zz birds are a hoot and watching Dave shoot his BP shotgun just added a lot of mosquito clearing to the ring.
The smell of BP is something to savor.
It was fun.

Most of by bp shotguns are that other slightly larger ga, but recently found a Spanish 16 S x S. Cleanup and test fire pending.

I just started loading black powder shotgun shells. I will probably expand to 16 ga later, but for now I have been playing with 20 ga all brass hulls using APP black powder substitute. So far the results have been mixed. The fun is there, but I found out why I was missing to much. The first batch had 1 oz shot using a lee dipper and then the same dipper full of APP. I finally put them over the chronograph and found them going less than 800 fps. I loaded one with the 1 1/8 dipper and barely got it over 800. I tried using them up on skeet station 1 and 7 and when I missed the high 7 on the double I had a built in mistake. I could not see the bird through the smoke from shooting the low 7 first. That is my story and I am sticking with it. I hope to be able to kick up the velocity closer to what I am used to. Great fun for a change, but I don't think by kkeet buddies liked wearing some of my shells floating debris.. |
