Morning

I am looking for some help i am thinking of buying a 16 gauge Zastava side by side, from a lad, it is about 30years old. just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the gun. can't find much info on it and the lad got it from his dad who past away. it looks like the bluing has faded of but not a drop of rust on or in it. do these guns take the 2 3/4" shell

thanks for the help, hopefully to soon to be a 16ga owner

WELCOME to this site Smile

They are strongly made firearms. Not as svelte as many but really functional.

The guns should take 2 3/4 inch ammo, but we will know for sure if you will post a picture of the proofmarks on the underside like this

I have no experience with their shotguns, but I've used a few of their '98 style mauser action rifles (marketed as Mark X). As Mike noted above- the rifles lacked a little in finishing, but overall were strong and well made rifles. I'd expect the same from any shotguns they produced.

I've owned my share of Interarms Mark X (98 Mauser) sporting rifles made by Zastava over the years including a very decent .375 H&H model. All of them were very well made, dependable, and very accurate as well. Nothing fancy, just hell for stout.

I've never owned one of the Zastava double guns, but I've handled my share of 12 ga models at various gun shows over the years. They certainly appear to be stoutly built if a bit heavy. I'd expect the same for any of their 16 ga models.

Most all Yugoslavian (now Serbian) and other Eastern European made firearms are designed and built for long, hard service. If the gun is already in good sound condition, then I expect it will serve you well for many years.

Skeet X has kindly posted a picture of some barrel flats with a mark which reads 16-65. This indictes the gun is a 16 ga w/ 2.5 inch chambers. 70mm equals approximately 2-3/4 inches, and 65mm equals about 2.5 inches. Use the mark and these measurements as references. You should be able to find some indication of chamber length among the proof and maker's marks on the barrels, the barrel flats, or on the water table of the gun.

I own a 16 ga SxS model 75 Zastava. It is clearly marked on the barrel flats 16/70 so it was made as a 2 3/4" gun. I haven't weighed it but it weighs about the same as my 16 ga Brn Citori. I gave $350 USD for mine 8yrs ago. It is a nice gun I've killed Doves, Pheasant, Sharptails, and a couple of Huns.
Overall it's a nice gun and I don't regret buying it.
Good luck.

Thanks very much for the wealth of information, I will be looking at the gun tomorrow and will definitely looking at the barrel flats. he is looking for $150 for the gun, so if it is in good condition it would be a good deal. Is it that big of a deal that the bluing is worn off?

thanks

While lack of bluing, a little superficial surface rust, dents and scratches in the wood, etc., will greatly affect the value, they do not affect how the gun shoots. I look for bright bores with no rust or pitting, no bulges or dents, tight lock-up, etc, While I am not familiar with that brand, $150 for a decent 16 ga. sxs would be hard to pass up.
