I tried multiple times to locate any previous postings on the subject if the Remington game loads hulls could be reloaded however couldn't find anything. I'm certain I read something discussing this subject but I'm coming up short in my search.

Please - tell me - can the Remington Game Load hulls be reloaded?

Thanks,

They most definitely can. Search for RGL. There are lots of loads for them. Also, look for SPR310 and the links in his signature to some great spreadsheets that are a huge wealth of loads with multiple components.

Hope that helps!

Are you kidding? Thank you so much - it's exactly what I'm looking for!

It appears that the 209 primers tend to create higher pressures - is that an accurate statement? If so, is there a primer recommended that allows for lower pressures assuming the same powders and loads?

Thanks,

While their life if exposed to heavier loads is not so good, YES, RGLs can be reloaded. i'm not sure what the question is regarding the 209 primer- it's the size of primer and is the correct size for any Rem hull mfg'd in the last 20 or so years. the various brands vary in the temperature and volume generated by the primer.

RGL's reload nicely for a while. They tend to shred the mouth after a few loadings, but don't throw them away. They'll reload nicely for as long as they last.

It's been a while since I last visited the site and the page doesn't want to load. I've logged into google but continue to get the same response that the page doesn't exist anymore. Sad

Can anyone help me out?

I load them a couple times until the mouth deteriorates, then cut them off and roll-crimp them a few more times. Not my favorite hull - but then, they don't make that one any more.

NO! NO! NO! Very dangerous. Send all your once fired 16 ga. RGL hulls to me, so I can properly dispose of them for you. Cool

Actually, the 16 ga. RGL polyformed hulls w/ the plastic base wad are very reloadable for between one and three reloadings. Use only the smaller diameter plastic wads like the DR16, the Claybuster WW16AA clones, or the Remington SP16 (or R16 if you can find any). The European 16 ga. wads meant for Cheddite type and Federal hulls are too large in diameter for Remington hulls. These bigger wads can all be force fit in the RGL hulls, but some of the loads will split as you force the wads in and can split when fired too.

Some of the European 20 ga wads and the Federal 20 ga. one ounce wad work fairly well in a 16ga. RGL hull. A lot of us used to use these 20 ga. wads for light loads back in the day when 16 ga wads were few and far between.

Smile

I have reloaded lots of RGL hulls for the 16 gauge and as others have said they are only good for a few reloads.
The biggest problem I have with the RGL hulls is they tend to not be of a uniform length so they can give you fits when you try to get a good crimp.
I sort them and measure them to get a bunch that are close to the same length and then load a few boxes. To measure I just lock a caliper to the most common length and slide shells into the opening and judge which one are too short or too long, it's quick to do.
I use Winchester 209 primers and DR16 wads.
I load on a MEC Sizemaster so it is easy to watch what is happening with each shell as I go along. I haven't loaded any for some time but I think my powder was Universal Clays.

Check a reloading manual as I am sure there are other suitable powders.

Ernie

Ernie is right on the button here . We've had that conversation before ! One of BYRDOG's shell trimmer takes care of that problem nicely . All mine are the shorter length now - 2 clay boxes full ! .... Now , the cutter I got from him is a 28ga , but I did all the 16's and am cutting 10's right now - all work fine !( I use a small washer under the wad loading station in my mec jr , because any shell needs to get up tight to the starter to not allow any wads to hang up on the shell mouth )
