Powder.
The one dealer there with a serious focus on reloading had ample powder. Most of it was rifle powder, but he did have shotgun powder, too. Most of the different manufacturers, too. To his credit, the 8# jug of Promo and the 8# jug of Clay Dot (when did you see that last?) were each priced at the "real" price, $110-120.
The ice jam is starting to break up.... |

I attended the 2nd gun show of my life today and while I had no luck in powder I did find 3 different vendors selling loose older shotgun shells. I bought 2 boxes of winchester w-w, 4 boxes of remington peters, 3 boxes of hi-power Feds, 1 box of old winchester slugs, and 2 boxes of random paper hulls for a total of $67.25! |

He had "a lot" of rifle powder. I'd guess 60 or 80 lb on the table, mostly in 1# jars. |

Good score.
I have had a lot of luck getting rifle and some pistol powder in New York and recently got 8 pounds of Clay Dot for $118.95 and some Longshot 4 pounders and a bunch of other shotgun powder in 14 ounce and one pounders, though I would like to get larger containers and hope they become more available.
The only thing I am really lacking is powder for the .410. 410, LilGun etc.

I hope I contributed to the ice jam breaking trend. I had the cash in my pocket and my hand on the Clay Dot, but passed. Because of work and stuff I haven't had the time to do much of anything, let alone reloading. I'm most definitely not buying shot at $50/bag (today's price at Cabelas). And I knew that if I bought the powder it would just be sitting in my closet for a while and I would be contributing to what remains of the panic buying that's been plaguing us for so long, too long. So I let go and let someone else buy it. Someone who'd be using it.
I don't want you to think I'm tooting my own horn. Rather, I figure that a little restraint like this will serve us well, multiply and fan out. |

+ 1 Dave, if everybody just bought what they will use, in say a three month period, there would never be any shortages, AND the prices would remain reasonable.
Too tough for some to understand though.

If all I had on hand was a 3 month supply I would not have been able to shoot at all last year. We went almost a year without ANY powder showing up. I still don't have my preferred 12 or 16 ga powders. The problem is that if you show restraint, you won't have any powder. If I could buy 6 jugs of each of my 3 main powders I would do it in a heartbeat. I don't have any other hobbies or past times so if I can't shoot I would have to work on my house, which I hate and am bad at. You call me a selfish hoarder - I call it being prudent. And I plan on buying as much powder as I can afford when it becomes available.
Regards,
Jeff |

There was an ad in the local gun org classifieds for an unopened 8# keg of RedDot for $275. I can pass the info on if any of you want to jump on that... |

I can buy powders suitable for .223/5.56 to 30 calibers about anywhere now, but pistol powder/shotshell powders are practically non-existent. Perhaps that illustrates where the powder companies are putting their priorities. Or maybe the demand for AR-15 reloading has waned some.
I found a small supply of Power Pistol a month ago and I believe I could buy Longshot if I needed it, but I have enough of that to satisfy my needs for the rest of the year. |
