Has anybody altered a MEC 9000 to load 2-1/2" hulls? I have a 9000 in 20 gauge that I have been studying as I reload 20 gauge shells. It doesn't look like it would be too difficult but I have been severely wrong many thousands of times about the difficulty of one-off projects.

I started fiddling with my MEC 9000 GN 16 gauge reloader - trying to get it fixed to load 2-1/2" shells. I am of the opinion right now that I can just lower the crimp stations and the wad holder. It appears right now that I can make those changes by adjusting, no cutting or machining.
I hope to post a success story tomorrow night.

I don't have a 9000G, but I do have the Grabber in 16 gauge.
All it took was a few adjustments, and I'm loading 2-9/16" hulls, 6 point crimp, with no problem. MEC said it couldn't be done. |

Well, I'm another one to prove MEC wrong.....I bought a 600Jr. specifically to convert to 2 9/16" [65mm] shells.
As Dave M. says, all that had to be done was adjust the crimp starter and the final crimp head down. |
